Gettysburg Defends Golf Title With 49-Stroke Win

BERLIN, Md. -- Gettysburg took the first four individual places on its way to defending its title at the 1995 Centennial Conference Golf Championship at Eagles Landing Golf Club.

The 54-hole tournament was played over the par-72, 6,700-yard Eagles Landing layout. Thirty-six holes were played on Saturday, April 22, while the final 18 were played on Sunday, April 23.

Senior Rick Gesseck won the individual title with a 14-over-par 230 over the 54 -hole tournament. Gesseck, who finished third here in 1994, fired rounds of 78-77-75 to take a four-shot victory over sophomore Jeff Forbes. Forbes posted the low round of the tourney, firing a one-over-par 73 in the final round to overtake teammates J.P. Scanlon and Guillermo Nakada. Scanlon, who was ninth a year ago, took third with a 235, while Nakada repeated his fourth-place finish of a year ago with a 238.

Dickinson's Dave Meade was fifth with a 243, while Franklin & Marshall's Ryan Neff was next at 245. A pair of Western Maryland freshmen - Mike Diehl and Tony Worm tied for seventh at 246, while Ursinus' Gary Knittel and WMC's Brian Gallizzo rounded out the top 10 with 247 and 249 scores. The top five finishers earned first-team All-Conference honors, while the next five are named to the second team.

Western Maryland was second in the team standings with a 982, while Dickinson took the bronze medal with a 1,007. Ursinus (1,024), Franklin & Marshall (1,033), Muhlenberg (1,046) and Swarthmore (incomplete) rounded out the field.
