1996 All-Conference Women's Lacrosse Team
LANCASTER, Pa. -- May 7, 1996 -- Ursinus, which captured its first Conference championship with an unblemished 10-0 record, placed five players on the 1996 All-Centennial Conference women's lacrosse team which was announced today.
Johns Hopkins senior attacker Francine Brennan (Allenhurst, NJ/Miss Porter's School) was a unanimous first-team selection and was also named the Conference's Player of the Year in balloting by the Conference's 11 head coaches. Brennan, who had 45 goals and 33 assists for 78 points on the season, led the CC in assists (28) and was third in scoring (31-28-59) in Conference games. She closed her career as the Centennial's all-time leading scorer in Conference games with 86-84-170.
Ursinus placed three players on the first team - seniors Jen Howe (Woodstock, VT/Woodstock Union), Jen Stone (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) and Kim Ryan (Brooklawn, NJ/Gloucester City). Howe, an attacker, was fourth in the CC in scoring (30-26-56) and led all Conference players with 53-34-87 overall, while Stone was a unanimous first-team selection on defense. Ryan fashioned the second-lowest goals against average (7.3) in CC games, while chalking up a 57.9 save percentage.
Joining Brennan on the first team were teammates Jenn Ward (Wilton, CT/Wilton), Mary Ann McGuire (Rumson, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven) and Jocelyn Polston (Lansdowne, PA/Penn Wood). Ward was fifth in the CC in scoring (39-14-53) and had 50-21-71 overall. McGuire and Polston led the Hopkins defense which permitted the fewest goals (64) in Conference play.
Franklin & Marshall had two representatives on the first team in senior attacker Tami Videon (Newtown Square, PA/Marple Newtown) and senior defender Cindy DeFelice (Larchmont, NY/Mamaroneck). Videon was the CC's second-leading scorer (40-19-59) and had 53-28-81 overall. Gettysburg senior Colleen Dunn (Chatham, NJ/Chatham) and Swarthmore's Lia Ernst (Kennett Square, PA/Unionville) round out the first-team attack unit. Dunn led the Conference in scoring (54-8-62) and all players in overall goals (67). Ernst had 45-8-53 overall. Dickinson senior defender Sue Jehl (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) rounds out the elite unit.
