Pleasant HS Farneth threw the first no-hitter in CC play against Haverford last week. He went seven innings, walking one, and fanning four. He also pitched in the win over Ursinus on Friday. On the week he pitched 12 innings, while allowing just one run, giving up four hits, two walks, and striking out nine. Baseball Honor Roll ¥ Billy Gills, Dickinson (Sr, P/OF, W. Hartford, CT/ Wm. H. Hall HS) - Gills lowered his team leading ERA to 1.71 with a complete-game win over F&M, allowing just two unearned runs and striking out four. At the plate last week, he hit .429 with one double and one homerun, including a 4-for-5 performance inthe nightcap against F&M. ¥ Rob Stisser, F&M (Jr., 1B, 6-4, 175, Windsor, CT/Windsor HS) - On Tuesday in the Diplomats' win against the Bullets, Stisser went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, one walk, and one RBI. ¥ John Woods, Gettysburg (Fr., 1B, 6-3, 195, Ellicott City, MD/ Centennial HS) - Woods was 4-for-10 (.400) on the week including a homerun, two doubles, and four RBIs. He has now extended his hitting streak to 17 games and hit his sixth homerun of the season, tying the school record. ¥ Mark Fine, Haverford (Sr, OF, Albuquerque, NM/ Albuquerque Academy) - Fine had a good week at the plate going 7-for-19 (.368) including three homeruns, one double, one triple, nine ribbies, and six runs scored. ¥ Bill Thompson, Johns Hopkins (So. 3B, Newtown, PA/The George School) - Thompson came off the bench and hit .500 (6-for-12) last week including two homeruns vs. Washington, the first of his career. ¥ Tim Mantz, Muhlenberg (Sr, SS, 5-10, 185, Newton, NJ/Newton HS) - In the final week of the season, Mantz hit .500 (10-for-20) and set the school record for hits in a season with 54. He also tied the school record for stolen bases in a season with 17. ¥ Ben Mills, Ursinus (Jr, C, Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley HS) - Mills had a productive week at the plate last week hitting .438 with five runs scored. ¥ Scott Quinn, Washington (Sr, IF/P/C, Newark, DE) - Quinn went 2-for-4 with a homerun in the first game and a double in the second game against JHU last week. He also scored a run in each game against Gettysburg. ¥ Rick Estes, Western Maryland (Sr, SS/CF, 5-10, 190, Baltimore, MD/ Dundalk HS) - Last week, Estes went 10-for-16 (.625) in four games with two doubles, one triple, seven runs scored, six RBI's, and two stolen bases. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Notes from around the Conference . . . DICKINSON finished its CC season strong by winning its last three games, including a sweep of then first place F&M. The Red Devils' 16 wins this season is a school record, and if they split with Catholic on Tuesday, it would be their first winning season since 1976 (9-8-1). Freshman P Mark Fifer (Newtown Square, PA/Friends Central HS) picked up two wins last week running his record to 7-0 on the season. Sophomore OF Chris Arland (Trenton, NJ/Hun School of Princeton) and sophomore C Jeremy Erdman (Spring Glen, PA/Tri Valley HS) were both hot at the plate last week. Arland hit .462 (6-for-13) and Erdman hit .455 (5-for-11). Dickinson has hit 20 homeruns this season, smashing the old record of 10. The Red Devils finish their season at Catholic on Tuesday. FRANKLIN & MARSHALL destroyed its hope of winning its second conference title in three years by losing its last three games. The Diplomats needed to win two of their last three to clinch at least a share of the title, but were swept by Dickinson on Saturday before dropping another to Gettysburg on Sunday. F&M led all three games but lost each one in the last two innings. One bright spot for the Diplomats was senior OF Jamie McCall (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine HS) who set conference records with 35 hits in a season and a .507 batting average. His 47 overall hits on the season is the second highest total in team history. McCall also tied the career record for runs by scoring 96 over the past four years. The Diplomats' game against Albright was canceled due to rain, making their season complete. GETTYSBURG dropped three of its last four, but finished strong with a win at F&M. After losing to F&M on Tuesday and being swept by Washington on Saturday, the Bullets came back to beat the Diplomats 6-4. The Bullets have been led by the hot bat of Senior OF Joe Cordova (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial HS) who leads the team with a .420 batting average in all games. Gettysburg travels to Frostburg on Tuesday before hosting Lebanon Valley on Thursday. HAVERFORD had a decent week winning three and losing two. The Fords dropped one to Washington on Monday but rebounded with two wins against Muhlenberg. In their doubleheader against Swarthmore they split, losing the first game and winning the nightcap. The Fords are led by senior OF Mark Fine (Albuquerque, NM/Albuquerque Academy) who is hitting .418 in CC games and .373 overall. Haverford will travel to Stockton State on Tuesday before hosting Wesley on Thursday and Philadelphia Pharmacy on Saturday. JOHNS HOPKINS won its second Centennial Conference title since the conference began four years ago. The Blue Jays clinched the crown by winning three of their last four games. They lost to Washington on Tuesday, but rallied to win their last three by beating Washington on Friday and sweeping Muhlenberg on Saturday. Senior C Dan Raedle (Farmington, ME/Phillips Andover) still leads the Blue Jays in all games by hitting .445 at the plate. JHU will travel to the College of New Jersey on Tuesday, host Catholic on Wednesday, and play at York on Sunday. MUHLENBERG had a rough week losing all five of its games. The Mules were swept by Haverford and Johns Hopkins and lost to non-conference opponent Moravian. Senior SS Tim Mantz (Newton, NJ/Newton HS) finished his career ranking in the school's all-time top 10 in 11 categories. His .429 batting average this season was the sixth best ever. Freshman OF/P Chuck Draper (Trevose, PA/George School) set the school record for RBI in a season with 36 and had the best freshman batting average ever, hitting .405. Muhlenberg's pitchers set a school record with 171 strikeouts this season. The Mules' season is complete. SWARTHMORE won two of its last five games. The Garnet won two games in a row for the first time this season with wins over Ursinus and Haverford, but lost to the College of New Jersey, Ursinus, and Haverford. Senior C Pat Straub (Wilmington, DE/Tower Hill) finished the season with a .417 batting average after going 10-for-14 (.714) with five runs scored. Swarthmore's season is now complete. URSINUS won two games and lost three last week. The Bears split with Swarthmore and Western Maryland and lost a non-conference game to the College of New Jersey. Junior P Nate Smiley (Kimberton, PA/Phoenixville HS) is not the only pitcher in the family. His cousin is John Smiley, the former Pittsburgh Pirate, who now pitches for the Cincinnati Reds. Ursinus will close out its season by traveling to Rowan on Tuesday and then hosting Division II Millersville on Thursday. WASHINGTON finished strong by winning four of its last five games. The Shoremen beat Haverford on Monday, Hopkins on Tuesday, lost to the Blue Jays on Friday, and swept Gettysburg on Saturday. Washington head coach Ed Athey coached his final games on Saturday after 37 years as the Shoremen's skipper. He ended his career with 315 wins. The Shoremen's season is now complete. WESTERN MARYLAND went .500 on the week splitting with both Dickinson and Ursinus. On Tuesday, three Green Terror pitchers, senior Tim D'Angelo (Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade HS), sophomore Mike Waddington (Alloway, NJ/ Woodstown HS), and freshman Erik Winkler (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown HS) combined on a two-hitter in the 19-2 win over Dickinson. Freshman IF Tim Smith (Riverdale, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti HS) also had a pinch-hit three-run homer in the game. Freshman P Brent Fuchs (Ridgely, MD/North Caroline HS) made his first career start in the nightcap against Ursinus, allowing just one earned run on seven hits in six innings of work. The Green Terror will travel to Lebanon Valley on Tuesday before hosting Messiah on Thursday.
