1996 Volleyball All-Conference Teams


GETTYSBURG PLACES FOUR ON ALL-CONFERENCE VOLLEYBALL TEAM
Franklin & Marshall Hitter Jen Power Named Player of the Year

LANCASTER, Pa. -- November 7 -- Gettysburg, which swept through the Conference with a perfect 10-0 record, placed three players on the first unit of the 1996 All-Centennial Volleyball Team which was announced today.

Franklin & Marshall senior outside hitter Jen Power (Meadville, PA/Meadville) was a unanimous first-team All-CC choice and was also named the Conference's Player of the Year in balloting conducted by the 11 head coaches. Power, who is the first player in Centennial history to earn first-team honors three times (1994-95-96), led the Conference in kills per CC game (4.73), was third in digs (3.58) and was fifth in hitting percentage (.307). Her overall kill per game mark of 4.47 (114 games, 510 kills) ranks her 10th in Division III.

Gettysburg, which is ranked second in the Mid-Atlantic Region with a 33-3 overall record, also placed freshman hitter Catherine Schott (Montrose, CO/Montrose) and junior hitter Carrie Steele (St. Louis, MO/ Kirkwood) on the first team, while senior setter Erin Guay (Pittsburgh, PA/North Hills) was tabbed to the second unit. Schott, a unanimous choice, led the CC in hitting percentage (.455) and was second in kills (4.09) and blocks (1.16). Her .408 hitting percentage in all games is eighth-best in the nation. Schott is just the second freshman to earn first-team All-Centennial honors. Steele was sixth in kills (2.72), seventh in hitting percentage (.294) and fifth in service aces (0.78) in Centennial play. Guay, a converted hitter, was second in the CC in assists per game at 9.44.

Rounding out the first team was Franklin & Marshall junior setter Jamie Cardman (Meadville, PA/ Meadville), Johns Hopkins senior hitter Gigi Koundinya (Medway, MA/Medway) and Muhlenberg junior hitter Lauren Buyyounouski (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo). Cardman led the Conference in assists with a CC-record 11.44 per game, while also placing second in aces (0.96) and fourth in digs (3.52). Koundinya was third in the CC in hitting percentage (.333) and fifth in blocks (1.04). Buyyounouski was second in digs (3.69) and third in kills per CC game (3.97). All three moved up from the second team in 1995.

Gettysburg and Franklin & Marshall are ranked 2-3 in the most recent Mid-Atlantic Region poll and should be selected to the 32-team Division III championship tournament, slated to begin on November 15.
