LANCASTER, Pa. -- November 8, 2000 -- Franklin & Marshall, winner of the Centennial Conference championship title for the fourth time, placed three players on the 2000 All-Conference volleyball team.
Johns Hopkins' senior Mary Alexis Paul (Baldwin, NY / Baldwin) was a unanimous first-team selection and chosen Player of the Year by the Conference's 11 head coaches. Paul, a 1998 first-team selection and 1999 second-team choice, led the conference in both kills per game (4.87) and hitting percentage (.317) while leading her team to a record-setting 9-1 Centennial mark and a runner-up finish in the conference championship tournament. The Blue Jays' outside hitter is the first player from a team other than Franklin & Marshall or Gettysburg to earn Player of the Year recognition.
Franklin & Marshall's Mary Boland (Wayne, PA / Villa Maria Academy) repeated as a first-team selection while teammates Emily Green (Woodstock, CT / Woodstock Academy) and Kristen Kowalski (York, PA / Central York) were named to the second squad. Senior setter Boland, also a member of the 1998 All-Conference second team, averaged 10.25 assists per game to lead the Diplomats to a perfect 10-0 conference record and the title in the championship tournament. Green, a junior, led the conference in aces, averaging 0.74 per game, while Kowalski, a sophomore, averaged a team-high 3.53 kills per game, good enough for sixth in the CC.
Gettysburg had three players repeat as members of All-Conference teams and added a new one as well. Senior Lisa Kamin (Glenn Mills, PA / Penncrest) was a unanimous selection to the first team following second-team honors in 1998 and 1999 and Megan Wargo (New Freedom, PA / Susquehannock) moved up from last year's honorable mention to second team. Senior Nicole Evans (Sarasota, FL / Sarasota) garnered honorable mention following first-team nods for the past two years while Lauren Boyd (Millersville, MD / Severna Park) earned a second-team selection.
Haverford's Jen Constantino (Folsom, PA / Ridley) joins the ranks of Jen Krug and Catherine Schott to become only the third freshman named to the first team. The freshman hitter was second in the conference in both kills per game (4.44) and hitting percentage (.307) as she led the Fords to their best conference season at 7-3 and a berth in the championship tournament.
Western Maryland's Honesty Drumgoole (Westminster, MD / Westminster), a 1998 second-team selection, repeated last year's first team selection and senior Brianne Bray (Dallastown, PA / Dallastown) rounds out the first team following a 1998 first-team selection and 1999 second-team selection.
