LANCASTER, Pa. -- November 5, 1997 -- Gettysburg, which swept through the Conference with a perfect 10-0 record, placed four players on the 1997 All-Centennial Volleyball Team which was announced today.
Bullet sophomore middle hitter Catherine Schott (Montrose, CO/Montrose) was a first-team choice and was also named Conference Player of the Year in balloting conducted by the 11 head coaches. Schott leads the Conference in kills per game (4.04), hitting percentage (.482) and blocks per game (1.05) and set a Centennial record for hitting percentage in CC matches at .576.
Joining Schott on the first team was senior teammate Carrie Steele (St. Louis, MO/Kirkwood). It is the second consecutive selection for the 5-11 hitter, who averages 2.48 kills and 3.14 digs per game. Freshman setter Nicole Evans (Sarasota, FL.Sarasota) and senior hitter Rachael Wagaman (Hanover, PA/South Western) were named to the second team.
Franklin & Marshall placed two players on the first team - senior setter Jamie Cardman (Meadville, PA/Meadville) and sophomore hitter Stacy Dunchick (New Philadelphia, PA/Pottsville). Cardman was second in the Conference in set assists per game (10.20) and has a CC-record 3,312 assists in her career. Dunchick is ranked sixth in the Conference in kills per game (2.81), third in hitting percentage (.312) and seventh in blocks per game (0.83).
Muhlenberg senior Lauren Buyyounouski (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) earned her second straight first-team nod. The 5-10 hitter is third among CC players in kills per game (3.42), ninth in digs (3.20) and 10th in hitting percentage (.229). Johns Hopkins senior hitter Anita Patibandla (Canton, OH/Western Reserve) rounds out the elite six on the first team. She is sixth in kills (2.72) and hitting percentage (.249), while placing fifth in blocks (0.96).
Gettysburg won the regular season title in the Conference and is the top seed and host for the first Centennial volleyball championship tournament on Nov. 8.
