LANCASTER, Pa. -- November 10, 1998 -- Gettysburg, which completed its fourth consecutive 10-0 regular season and captured its second consecutive Centennial Conference Championship Tournament title, placed three players on the 1998 All-Centennial Volleyball teams which were announced today.
Bullet junior hitter Catherine Schott (Montrose, CO/Montrose), just the second player to be named first-team All-Centennial three years in a row, became the Conference's two-time Player of the Year in balloting conducted by the Conference's 10 head coaches. Schott was a unanimous selection to the elite list after leading the league in hitting percentage (45.2) and kills per game (4.74). She is joined on the top squad by sophomore setter Nicole Evans (Sarasota, FL/Sarasota). Evans, a second-team selection last year, moves up to the first-team after leading the CC with 12.58 assists per game. Sophomore Lisa Kamin (Glen Riddle, PA/Penncrest) earned a second-team nod after appearing in the conference leaders in kills per game (3.15) and hitting percentage (23.3).
Two Franklin & Marshall hitters also appear on the first team. Junior hitter Stacy Dunchick (New Philadelphia, PA/Pottsville) made the cut for the second year in a row. She led her team with a 31.7 hitting percentage and was second with 3.18 kills per game. Classmate Julie Simpson (Atlantic, PA/Meadville), also a hitter, earned the honor after averaging 3.37 kills per game with a 25.4 hitting percentage, while leading her team to a second-place finish in the league. Simpson was a second-team selection in 1997.
Two second-team All-CCers from 1997, Johns Hopkins' sophomore hitter Mary Alexis Paul (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) and Western Maryland's sophomore hitter Brianne Bray (Dallastown, PA/ Dallastown), round out the elite squad. Paul posted 3.49 digs and 2.78 kills per game to go along with a 32.2 hitting percentage in all games, while Bray hit at a 30.9 clip and averaged 2.67 kills and 1.03 blocks overall.
