  • Ursinus' Engle Named Second-Team All-America
    (May 21) - "The awards keep rolling in for Ursinus senior pitcher Zeb Engle. Engle (Spring City, PA/Spring-Ford) was named a second-team D3Baseball.com All-American on Tuesday. This comes one day after being named the Mid-Atlantic Pitcher of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association. He was also named first-team All-Centennial and was the Pitcher of the Year in the Centennial." Complete Team

    Shenandoah Ousts Johns Hopkins, 11-7
    (May 17) - " Shenandoah spoiled a three-run Johns Hopkins lead in the bottom of the eighth in the NCAA South Regional final to take an 11-7 decision and the regional crown. The Blue Jays led by as many as three runs after five complete innings at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in Salisbury, Md. JHU concludes the 2009 season with a 28-16 record, a Centennial Conference Championship and a second-place finish in the NCAA South Regional. The Hornets advance to their first College World Series with a 37-8 record. Senior Todd Emr and juniors Lee Bolyard and Brian Youchak each earned all-tournament team honors after their standout offensive performances in the NCAA South Regional."

    28 Named to Spring Academic Honor Roll
    (May 12) - Three-hundred twenty-five students, including 28 baseball players, have been named to the Centennial Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll for their performance in the classroom and the field of play. To be nominated for the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll, a student must meet the following criteria: (a) participates in at least 50 percent of contests, matches or meets, or in the Conference varsity championship in golf or outdoor track & field; (b) a sophomore or higher in class standing; (c) cumulative GPA of 3.40 or higher. Fifty-one students also received All-Centennial recognition this spring, while five were named Players of the Year.

    Hopkins Claims Third Straight Conference Championship
    (May 4) - "The Johns Hopkins baseball team earned its third consecutive Centennial Conference Championship Monday in Collegeville, PA when the tournament finale was officially called due to rain at 11:23 a.m. The Blue Jays downed Franklin & Marshall in 10 innings on Friday, 7-6, before defeating Ursinus on Saturday, 11-1. Franklin & Marshall survived Ursinus on Saturday, 8-2, to make it into the final round of play against Johns Hopkins. The Blue Jays were the No. 2 seed while the Diplomats were the No. 3 seed. The field was not able to be restored to a playable condition today because of the persistent precipitation and the remainder of the Centennial Conference Tournament has been cancelled."

    Emr, Engle Capture Top Honors on 2009 All-Conference Team
    (April 29) - Johns Hopkins 3B Todd Emr and Ursinus LHP Zeb Engle were selected as the Conference's Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively, as the 2009 All-Centennial team was announced today. Emr leads the CC in hitting with a .459 average with 17 doubles, three homers and 38 RBI. Engle leads the loop with an 8-0 record, a 1.84 ERA and 78 strikeouts in 72.2 innings. The Blue Jays placed four players on the first team, while Franklin & Marshall had three players on the first unit. Ursinus' Brian Thomas was named the Coach of the Year.
