2000 ALL-CENTENNIAL WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM ANNOUNCED
Swarthmore Sophomore Forward Heather Kile Named Player of the Year

LANCASTER, PA -- February 21, 2000 -- West Division champion Johns Hopkins placed two players on the first team as the 1999-2000 All-Centennial Conference women's basketball team was announced today.

Swarthmore sophomore Heather Kile (Marlton, NJ / Holy Cross), who leads the Conference in scoring (18.9) and rebounding (13.8), was a first-team All-CC selection for the second straight season and was named the 2000 Centennial Conference Basketball Player of the Year in balloting by the 10 head coaches. She also is second in the Conference in field goal percentage (52.5) and 10th in steals (2.21). Kile is the first Garnet player to earn Conference Player of the Year honors and is the second sophomore to receive the honor. Dickinson's Annie Guzek won the first of her two Player of the Year awards as a soph in 1994.

Johns Hopkins senior guard Leslie Ritter (Fort Washington, MD / Oxon Hill), the 1999 CC Player of the Year, earned first-team All-Conference honors for the second straight season. She leads the Centennial in assists (4.63) and assist-turnover ratio (1.41), while averaging 11.5 points per game. Joining her on the elite squad is senior center Marjahna Segers (Hempstead, NY / Long Island Lutheran). Segers, who moves up from the 1999 second team, averages 10.8 points and 11.7 rebounds per game and, along with Ritter, led the Blue Jays to their sixth straight West Division crown.

Rounding out the frontcourt is Western Maryland forward Jill Ibex (Westminster, MD / Westminster). The junior is second in the Conference in scoring (15.7), fourth in rebounding (8.3) and first in blocked shots (1.74). She moves up from the 1999 second team. Franklin & Marshall sophomore Amy Kreitz (Allentown, PA / Salisbury) is the other guard on the first unit. She is the CC's third-leading scorer at 15.1 ppg., the leader in three-point field goal percentage (41.6) and places sixth in steals (2.46).

The Centennial Conference playoffs get underway Wednesday night at two sites. East Division champ Muhlenberg (15-9) entertains West runner-up Franklin & Marshall (12-12) at 6 p.m., while West champ Johns Hopkins (19-5) welcomes Swarthmore, the East runner-up, to Baltimore for a 7 p.m. tip. The winners will meet Saturday at a campus site to be determined. If Hopkins defeats Swarthmore, the title game will be in Baltimore. Otherwise, the championship tilt will be held at the winner of the Franklin & Marshall-Muhlenberg game.
