1996 Field Hockey All-Conference Teams
LANCASTER, Pa. -- November 6, 1996 -- Swarthmore, which is unbeaten in Conference play over the last two years with a 18-0 record, placed five players on the 1996 All-Centennial Field Hockey teams which were announced today.
Garnet junior forward Danielle Duffy (Media, PA/Penncrest) was a repeat first-team All-CC choice and was also named the Conference's Player of the Year for the second consecutive year in balloting conducted by the Conference's 10 head coaches. Duffy was fourth in conference scoring this year with eight goals and three assists for 19 points. She holds the Centennial Conference records for assists in a season (17), assists in a career (30) and career points (64).
Senior back Erin Flather (Kensington, MD/Walter Johnson) and senior goalkeeper Kelly Wilcox (Brookhaven, PA/Sun Valley) joined Duffy on the All-CC first team. Wilcox led the conference with a .925 save percentage and a 0.49 goals against average in league play. The other two Garnet players - midfielders Lia Ernst (Kennett Square, PA/Unionville) and Donna Griffin (Dover, DE/Dover) were named to the All-CC second team. Ernst was a first-team selection in 1995, while Griffin is a repeat second-team choice.
Gettysburg, which finished second in the conference with an 8-1 record, placed four players on the first team. The senior-junior tandem of Tedra Fazendeiro (New Bedford, MA/Tabor Academy) and Becky Griffith (Camp Hill, PA/Cedar Cliff) led the way at the forward position for the Bullets. Griffith led the league in scoring with 6-11-23 in conference action and 10-14-34 overall, while Fazendeiro was right behind her with 10-0-20 in the Centennial and 15-2-32 in all games. Midfielder Kate Mason (Bechtelsville, PA/Boyertown) and defender Gretchen Keisel (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing)wrapped up the Bullets' contingent on the elite team.
Rounding out the first team were Bryn Mawr's Heidi Hamilton (Coopertown, NY/Holderness School) and Washington's Sarah Sobon (North East, MD/North East) at midfield, Muhlenberg's Christy Rudderow (Huntingdon Valley, PA/Lower Moreland) at forward and Western Maryland's Kellie Mitros (Westmont, NJ/Haddon Township) at back.
