LANCASTER, Pa. -- November 3, 1998 -- Gettysburg, which won its third Centennial Conference title with a perfect 9-0 record, placed seven players on the 1998 All-Centennial Field Hockey teams which were announced today.
Bullet junior forward Steph Fisher (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg), a second-team selection a year ago, was a first-team choice and was also named the Conference's Player of the Year in balloting conducted by the Conference's 10 head coaches. Fisher was second in the conference in scoring this year with 14 goals and seven assists for 35 points.
Junior Laura DeSario (East Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) and senior Anna Spognardi (Medfield, MA/ Medfield), both second-team selections a year ago, joined Fisher on the first-team All-CC as midfielders. DeSario, a unanimous selection, had 6-4-16 in all games, while Spognardi was right behind her with 4-3-11 overall this year. Sophomore defender Megan Eddinger (Bally, PA/Boyertown), an honorable mention pick in 1997, rounds out the Bullet contingent on the first-team. She had a goal and an assist to go along with two defensive saves. Sophomore forward Jenni White (Quakertown, PA/Pennridge) was named to the second team after scoring 6-6-18 in all games.
Washington and Swarthmore, which tied for second place in the conference standings, placed three and two players on the elite squad, respectively. Junior forward Christyl Arrabal (Chestertown, MD/Kent County), senior midfielder Mandy Pare (Colora, MD/Perryville) and junior defender Quincy Miles (Pocomoke, MD/Pocomoke) were all named to the first team for the second consecutive year. Pare was a unanimous selection. Seniors Holly Baker (Media, PA/Penncrest) and Donna Griffin (Dover, DE/Dover) lead the Garnet on the top squad. Baker led the conference in scoring with 15-7-37, while Griffin had 6-11-23 as the ninth-leading scorer.
Rounding out the first team were Johns Hopkins senior defender Alexis Pennotti (Allenhurst, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) and Franklin & Marshall senior goalkeeper Audra Krupp (Alexandria, VA/The Hockaday School). Pennotti led the Blue Jays with nine assists this season, while Krupp maintained a .832 save percentage and a 2.04 goals against average.
