Bullet sophomore Dave Curry (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan), a first-team All-Conference choice on attack, was named the Conference's Player of the Year in balloting by the seven Conference head coaches. Curry was tied for second in CC scoring with 19 goals and 17 assists for 36 points in the six Conference games. Overall, he has 37 goals and 26 assists for a team-leading 63 points, helping Gettysburg to a 12-1 record, a No. 2 national ranking and its fifth consecutive bid to the NCAA Division III championship tournament.
The Bullets of head coach Hank Janczyk had five representatives on the first team - senior attackman Tim DeMore (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee), senior midfielder Derek Risso (Carlisle, Mass./Concord-Carlisle), senior defenseman Brian McGurn (Northbrook, Ill./Loyola Academy), junior goaltender Jake Kovalcik (Boonton, N.J./Boonton Township) and Curry. It was the second consecutive first-team selection for DeMore, who was second in the Conference (22-14-36) in scoring and had 34-29-63 overall. Joining DeMore as repeaters on the first unit were McGurn and Kovalcik. McGurn, a unanimous All-Conference selection, was the leader of the Bullet defense which limited CC opponents to just 40 goals in six games - a CC record. Kovalcik was the last line of defense and posted a Conference-best 71.3 save percentage. It was the first All-Conference tab for Risso, who won over 75 percent of his faceoffs this season.
The Bullets also had four players on the second unit in senior attackman Noah Davis (Auburn, N.Y./ Skaneateles), junior midfielders David Cornell (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur) and Drew Nisbitt (Providence, R.I./Providence Country Day) and senior defender Kevin Cordell (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool).
Joining Curry and DeMore on attack was Franklin & Marshall junior Chris Mergardt (Bedford, N.Y./ Fox Lane), who led all Centennial players in Conference (36-5-41) and overall (61-13-74) scoring in 1995.
Washington sophomore Greg Tomasso (Darnestown, Md./Georgetown Prep) was a unanimous choice at midfield. He was tied for sixth in CC scoring (15-12-27) and had 28 goals and 12 assists for 40 points overall. F&M senior Andrew Giobbe (Chappaqua, N.Y./Taft School), a long-stick midfielder, was the other member of the first-team trio. F&M senior Jason Roberts (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) joined McGurn as a unanimous first-team defenseman, while Washington senior Jesse Cook (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) also earned a first-team nod.
