Ursinus College

A nationally recognized undergraduate liberal arts institution, Ursinus College is located on a scenic, wooded 160-acre campus, 30 miles from Center City Philadelphia. Ursinus is a highly selective, independent, coeducational college well-known for its rigorous, academic programs. A leader in undergraduate research, the college is renowned for the successes of its graduates in medicine, the sciences, law, business and education. Ursinus ranks 16th in the nation in the proportion of its graduates who become physicians and 30th in the percentage who go on to PH.D.s in the natural sciences. The college is one of the top eight percent of U.S. colleges and universities to hold a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. Chartered by the Pennsylvania legislature in 1869 on the site of the former Freeland Seminary, by members of the German Reformed Church, the institution is named for Zacharias Ursinus, a distinguished 16th-century scholar and theologian of the University of Heidelberg, Germany. The college has been coeducational since 1880.
