  • Brady Named Haverford Men's Soccer Coach
    (April 16) - "Haverford College Director of Athletics Wendy Smith '87 has announced the hiring of Bill Brady as the head men's soccer coach. Brady comes to Haverford from Greensboro (N.C.) College where he won three conference championships and made three NCAA Tournament appearances in four years."

    Swarthmore's Kushner Named to All-America First Team
    (December 12) - Swarthmore senior defender Jeff Kushner has been selected to the 2008 NSCAA/adidas Division III Men's Soccer All-America first team. A unanimous first-team All-Centennial selection, Kushner anchored the Garnet defense that led the Conference in fewest goals allowed (10), goals against average (0.45) and shutouts (13). Johns Hopkins senior midfielder Matt Carlson, the 2008 Conference Player of the Year, was named to the All-America second team.

    Four Named to All-Mid-Atlantic Region Men's Soccer First Team
    (December 10) - Four Conference players have been named to the NSCAA/adidas Division III men's soccer All-Mid-Atlantic Region team. Swarthmore placed two players on the first unit - Jeff Kushner and Evan Nesterak - while Gettysburg's Chris Bayon and Johns Hopkins' Matt Carlson also made the first team. Seven other Centennial athletes were also selected to the second and third teams.

    Johns Hopkins' Naik Named to Academic All-America Men's Soccer Squad
    (November 21) - Johns Hopkins men's soccer senior Akash Naik (Simpsonville, SC / Hillcrest) has been named a Third Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American. A co-captain for the Blue Jays, he is just the third player in JHU men's soccer history to earn ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America honors. Naik has started all but one game this season in the midfield for Hopkins and has scored three goals and added four assists. His four assists this season are tied for second best on the team and tie his career high. For his career, he has totaled 33 career points on 12 goals and 10 assists. He is a three-time Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll selection and a Dean's List student.

    Fall Academic Honor Roll Announced
    (November 18) - Three-hundred four students have been named to the 2008 Centennial Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll for their performance in the classroom and on the field of play. Fifty-seven of the honorees also received All-Conference recognition this fall, while three students - Ursinus' Jennie Moore, Johns Hopkins' Matt Carlson and Dickinson's Sarah Casey - earned Player of the Year honors.

    (November 10) - Swarthmore's David Sterngold and David D'Annunzio were selected as the Conference's Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week. Sterngold scored the game-winning goal in the 61st minute to give the Garnet a 1-0 victory against two-time defending CC champ Johns Hopkins for the Centennial title. D'Annunzio was solid in goal for the Garnet, allowing just one goal in 200 minutes of playoff soccer, enabling Swarthmore to win the Centennial title. He had four saves in the final against Johns Hopkins.

    Garnet Wins First Centennial Championship
    (November 9) - David Sterngold scored the championship-winning goal in the 61st minute to give Swarthmore a 1-0 victory against two-time defending champ Johns Hopkins in the 2008 Centennial Conference men's soccer final. Sterngold chipped the ball over JHU keeper Matt Mierley for his sixth goal of the season. The Garnet won its first-ever Centennial championship and first CC men's title of any kind since football in 1984.

    Carlson Named Player of the Year as All-Centennial Men's Soccer Team Announced
    (November 6) - Johns Hopkins senior midfielder Matt Carlson was selected as the Player of the Year as the 2008 All-Centennial Conference men's soccer team was announced on Thursday. Regular-season champion Swarthmore had two players named to the first team and four overall. Gettysburg's Chris Bayon became just the 13th player in Conference history to earn first-team All-Centennial honors three times.
