Aerik Williams, Johns Hopkins
Junior, Midfield, Columbus, OH (Columbus Academy)

Williams had a big week in leading the Blue Jays to their third Centennial championship. He notched the championship-winning goal in a 1-0 triumph over Gettysburg, then handed out two assists in a 3-2 overtime victory at Franklin & Marshall. Williams' assist on the golden goal was his 18th of the season, equaling the CC single-season record.


Weekly Honor Roll

Scott Runyon, Franklin & Marshall (Jr, F, Hopatcong, NJ / Gill St. Bernards) - Runyon scored one goal against 19th ranked Johns Hopkins to bring his season total to 13, a team high.

Michael Bruno, Gettysburg (So, M, Harrisburg, PA / Susquehanna) - Bruno made his first collegiate goal a memorable one, as it was the game-winner vs. Dickinson.

Matt Duques, Haverford (Jr, M, Osprey, FL / Tenafly, NJ) - Duques sparked the Fords' shutout of ancient rival Swarthmore with a first-half goal that proved to be the game-winner.

Dave Paxson, Muhlenberg (Sr, M, Lancaster, PA / Hempfield) - Paxson, playing in the final regular-season game of his career, scored the game-winning goal with 8:28 remaining to give Muhlenberg a 3-2 victory at Ursinus.

Steve Wilkes, Ursinus (Jr, F, Alpharetta, GA / Chattahoochee) - Wilkes scored four goals in a 1-1 week for the Bears. He tallied three goals, including the game-winner, in a 4-3 overtime win at Alvernia. He added one goal in Ursinus' 3-2 season-ending loss to Muhlenberg.

Ryan Defibaugh, Western Maryland (Jr, GK, Rockville, MD / Magruder) - Defibaugh stymied the Washington attack for 120 minutes in a scoreless draw. The shutout gave him 2.5 on the season as he turned away seven shots.


Around the Conference

Hopkins Wins Third Championship: Johns Hopkins continued its string of winning Centennial championships in even-numbered years, taking the 2000 title with a 1-0 victory over Gettysburg. The Blue Jays also captured the trophy in 1996 and 1998. Hopkins will take on Salisbury State in the second round of the NCAA tournament on Saturday at Rowan University.

Doran Record Run Ends: Johns Hopkins junior Matthew Doran (Stormville, NJ / John Jay) saw his NCAA Division III record for consecutive games scoring a goal come to an end at 15 vs. Gettysburg. But he may be starting a new streak, as he tallied against Franklin & Marshall to raise his season total to 27 - a Centennial single-season record. He also has 52 career goals which is good for fourth place on the Conference's career list.

Williams Ties Vishio For Assist Mark: Johns Hopkins junior Aerik Williams (Columbus, OH / Columbus Academy) had a pair of assists vs. Franklin & Marshall, including one on the game-winning goal in overtime, to raise his season total to a school-record 18 assists. He equaled the Centennial single-season mark set last fall by Gettysburg's Jason Vishio.

Team-by-Team Notes

DICKINSON (4-15, 2-7): The Devils ended the year with five straight losses, after a 3-0 defeat at Gettysburg. Junior GK Michael Murphy (Philadelphia, PA / George Washington) ended the year with a 76.0 save percentage and a 2.32 goals against slate. Freshman F Brandon Corbit (Olney, MD / Sherwood) led the team with two goals, as Dickinson was outscored 45-9 this season.

FRANKLIN & MARSHALL (9-8, 5-4): The Diplomats ended the year on a disappointing note, falling to Johns Hopkins, 3-2, in overtime. F&M had taken a 2-0 second-half lead on the CC champs on tallies from juniors Scott Runyon (Hopatcong, NJ / Gill St. Bernards) and Wes Gauthier (Shrevport, LA / Greenhill). It was the 13th goal of the season for Runyon which led the squad, as did his 29 points. Sophomore GK Chris Milano () posted a 75.9 save percentage.

GETTYSBURG (13-5, 6-3): The Bullets finished in a tie for second in the Conference and earned a berth in the ECAC South tournament. Gettysburg split a pair of matches last week, falling to Johns Hopkins, 1-0, but rebounding to upend Dickinson, 3-0. GK Steve Kopp (Upper Montclair, NJ / Montclair) made five saves vs. the high-scoring Blue Jays. Sophomore midfielders Michael Bruno (Harrisburg, PA / Susquehanna), Cameron MacLean (Riverside, CT / Greenwich, Folsom) and Michael Sarbaugh (Elizabethtown, PA / Elizabethtown) notched the goals vs. the Red Devils. Gettysburg is now 26-0-4 at home over its last 30 contests. Senior M Jeremy Shapiro (Leonia, NJ / Fieldston School) leads the Orange and Blue in scoring with 15-5-35, while sophomore F Mike Bevilacqua (Marshfield, MA / Thayer Academy) is next with 5-2-12. Senior GK Nick LaPorta (Chevy Chase, MD / Bethesda-Chevy Chase) has an 83.9 save percentage and an 0.72 goals against mark. The Bullets will host the semifinals and finals of the ECAC South Tournament, squaring off with the winner of the Washington-Wilkes game on Saturday.

HAVERFORD (10-7, 4-5): The Fords ended their season on a high note, defeating archrival Swarthmore, 2-0, extending Haverford's lead in the all-time series to 40-30-8. Junior M Matt Duques (Osprey, FL / Tenafly, NJ) scored the game-winning goal in the first half, while senior F Dave Michel (Philadelphia, PA / Shipley School) added the icing in the second half with assists from freshman F John Heacock (Haddonfield, NJ / Memorial) and senior M Justin Bennett (Hartwick, NY / Cooperstown Central). Sophomore GK Dan DiBruno (Cherry Hill, NJ / East) made seven saves for the shutout. Heacock led the Fords in scoring with 10-7-27 on the season, while junior M Jordan Brown (New Hope, PA / Solebury School) added 9-1-19. DiBruno had an 84.0 save percentage and a 1.54 goals against mark.

JOHNS HOPKINS (14-2-2, 9-0): The Blue Jays won their third Centennial championship with wins over Gettysburg, 1-0, and Franklin & Marshall, 3-2. Junior F Aerik Williams (Columbus, OH / Columbus Academy) clinched the CC title for JHU, scoring the game-winning goal vs. the defending champion Bullets. He also added a pair of assists vs. the Diplomats, including one on the game-winner in overtime, to equal the CC record for assists in a season (18). Junior Matthew Doran (Stormville, NY / John Jay) had his NCAA Division III record for goals in consecutive games snapped at 15 vs. Gettysburg, but his goal vs. F&M broke the Centennial record for goals in a season (27). Junior Paul Galli (Roslyn, NY / Herricks) has come off the bench to score five goals and two assists in four games, including tallying the game-winning goal vs. the Diplomats. Galli has 13-6-32 on the season. The 2000 JHU team owns the school regular season record for goals scored (80), assists (70), and points (230). Freshman GK Justin Glaser (Great Neck, NJ / North) has an 84.3 save percentage and an 0.67 goals against average. Hopkins will face Salisbury State at Rowan University in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on November 11.

MUHLENBERG (10-7, 6-3): Muhlenberg ended its regular season with a split, falling 1-0 to Moravian, but rebounding to upend Ursinus, 3-2. Senior M Dave Paxson (Lancaster, PA / Hempfield) scored the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute vs. the Bears. The win gave the Mules double digits in victories for the 14th time in the last 15 seasons. Sophomore Ben Long (Granville, OH / Granville) leads the team in scoring with 7-2-16, while junior GK Rob Pomento (Wilkes-Barre, PA / Wyoming Seminary) has a 76.3 save percentage and a 1.25 goals against slate. All seven of Long's goals came against CC competition. Muhlenberg received a bid to the ECAC South Tournament this weekend at Gettysburg and will play the winner of the Washington-Wilkes game in the semifinals.

SWARTHMORE (3-12, 0-9): The Garnet ended its year on a six-game losing streak, after being shut out by archrival Haverford, 2-0. Swarthmore mustered just one goal during the stretch, but will look back on what could have been this season, as the Garnet lost four games in overtime, including three by a 1-0 count. Sophomore GK Chris Milla (Taipei, Taiwan / Taipei American) recorded nine saves in net vs. the Fords and ended with a 73.4 save percentage. Freshman F Kevin Pastor (Canaan, NY / Chatham) led the team in scoring with 3-1-7, while junior M Frank Sersale (Buenos Aires, Argentina / Mamaroneck, NY) had 2-2-6.

URSINUS (6-11-1, 2-7): The Bears split their final two matches, edging Alvernia, 4-3, in overtime, and falling to Muhlenberg, 3-2. Junior F Steve Wilkes (Alpharetta, GA / Chattahoochee) had a hat trick vs. Alvernia, including the game-winner in OT. Sophomore Mike Papenberg (Riverton, NJ / Palmyra) scored a goal in each match for UC, while Wilkes also tallied vs. 'Berg. Wilkes led the Bears in scoring with 11-4-26, while Papenberg and junior F Scott Hussey (Howell, NJ / St. John Vianney) had 4-3-11 and 4-2-10, respectively. Sophomore GK Tim McDonald () had a 77.9 save percentage.

WASHINGTON (10-7-1, 5-3-1): The Shoremen finished the regular season with a 5-0-1 mark to earn a berth in the ECAC South tournament. Washington defeated Widener, 4-2, and played a scoreless draw with Western Maryland last week. Sophomore M Tim Buckless (Bel Air, MD / John Carroll School) tallied the game-winner at the 36:05 mark of the second half vs. the Pioneers. Senior Justin Daniel (Annapolis, MD / Annapolis) scored the game's opening goal - the 50th of his career. He joins an elite club of seven Centennial players that have scored 50 or more goals in a career. Senior GK John Steere (Wellesley, MA / Wellesley) made four saves vs. WMC for the shutout. He has an 81.7 save percentage. Daniel leads the team in scoring with 14-5-33, while sophomore T.J. Velykis (Franklinville, NJ / Delsea Regional) has 4-5-13. The Shoremen, the No. 5 seed in the tourney, will meet Wilkes on Wednesday in the ECAC first round. The winner meets Gettysburg on Saturday in the semifinals.

WESTERN MARYLAND (10-6-2, 5-3-1): The Green Terror closed its regular season with a scoreless draw at home vs. Washington. Junior GK Ryan Defibaugh (Rockville, MD / Magruder) made seven saves in earning the shutout. WMC finished strong with a 4-0-1 record in its final five games to earn an ECAC South tournament berth. The Terror will play Penn State-Behrend on Wednesday in the first round. The winner advances to the semifinals opposite Muhlenberg at Gettysburg. Junior F Vinny Pedalino (Toms River, NJ / T.R. East) leads the team in scoring with 10-9-29, while junior Tom Long (Westminster, MD / Francis Scott Key) had 6-4-16. Defibaugh crafted an 83.5 save percentage and a 1.15 goals against mark. The Terror scored a school-record 55 goals in 2000, eclipsing the record of 53 set by the 1959 team. With seniors Dan D'Agostino (Rockville, MD / Magruder) and Darren Wolf (Middletown, MD / Middletown)graduating, 23 of the 25 players from this 10-6-2 team are eligible to return in 2001. Wolf and D'Agostino were a part of WMC teams that went 3-10-2, 9-11, 9-8 and 10-6-2 from their freshman to senior years.
