  • Johns Hopkins' Paulucci Named First-Team Soccer All-American
    (December 10) - Johns Hopkins sophomore Jenn Paulucci has been selected to the 2008 NSCAA/adidas Division III Women's Soccer All-America first team. She is one of two sophs on the elite squad. Paulucci was the leader of the Blue Jay defense that posted 17 shutouts on its way to a fourth consecutive Centennial title with an 18-1-4 overall record. Teammates Karen Guszkowski and Sarah Gieszl were named second-team All-Mid-Atlantic region, while Dickinson's Sarah Casey, Hopkins' Erica Suter and Swarthmore's Cait Mullarkey were named to the third team. All-America team / All-Region Team

    Swarthmore's Mullarkey Receives
    Rhodes Scholarship

    (November 23) - Swarthmore senior Caitlin Mullarkey became just the second Centennial Conference athlete to earn a prestigious Rhodes Scholarship as the scholarship trust announced its 32 recipients Saturday. The students will enter Oxford University in England next October. The scholarships provide two or three years of study. Mullarkey, a third-team Academic All-America selection, recently became the first defender to earn All-Centennial first-team women's soccer honors four times. A two-time All-Region selection, she was the leader of the Garnet defense that was second in goals allowed (12) in 2008. An honors biology major, is active on the Student Activities Advisory Board and conducts cell biology research on campus. A McCabe Scholarship recipient upon admission to Swarthmore, she is a candidate for the Marshall Scholarship for post-graduate work, having spent last summer at Georgetown Medical School researching malignant glioma, a type of brain cancer discovered in the diagnosis of Senator Ted Kennedy. Johns Hopkins football player Wes Moore '01 was the Conference's first Rhodes Scholar back in 2000.

    Fall Academic Honor Roll Announced
    (November 18) - Three-hundred four students have been named to the 2008 Centennial Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll for their performance in the classroom and on the field of play. Fifty-seven of the honorees also received All-Conference recognition this fall, while three students - Ursinus' Jennie Moore, Johns Hopkins' Matt Carlson and Dickinson's Sarah Casey - earned Player of the Year honors.

    (November 10) - Johns Hopkins' Erica Suter and Jenn Paulucci were selected as the Conference's Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week. Suter headed in the game-winner in the 103rd minute to lift Hopkins to a 1-0 double-overtime win against Muhlenberg in the CC semifinals. Paulucci anchored a defensive line that did not allow a goal in 212 minutes of playoff action, leading the Blue Jays to their fourth straight Conference title.

    Four in a Row for Hopkins Women's Soccer
    (November 9) - The Johns Hopkins women's soccer team claimed its fourth consecutive Centennial Conference championship to clinch another NCAA Tournament berth after a penalty-kick shootout. Hopkins prevailed 4-2 over Dickinson in a shootout in the Centennial finals. The Blue Jays are the only Centennial Conference soccer team to ever win four straight titles. Head coach Leo Weil has led the Blue Jays to seven conference championships in his 17 seasons.

    All-Centennial Team Announced
    Dickinson's Casey Named Player of the Year

    (November 5) - Regular-season champion Johns Hopkins placed five players on the 2008 All-Centennial women's soccer team that was released on Wednesday. Blue Jay sophomore back Jenn Paulucci was a unanimous first-team choice and was joined on the first unit by freshman forward Erica Suter. Dickinson senior forward Sarah Casey, a first-team selection, was named the Player of the Year in balloting by the Conference's 11 head coaches.
