Petros Named Third-Team All-America

Senior defensive end Allen Petros (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty HS) of the Moravian College football team has been named to the 2011 All-America Team announced Friday prior to the start of the 2011 NCAA Division III National Championship game, the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl, in Salem, Virginia between The University of Mount Union and The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Petros, who was on the 2011 All-South Region First Team announced earlier this month and the All-Centennial Conference First Team in 2011 and 2010 after making the Honorable Mention squad in 2009, led the Moravian defensive with 62 tackles this fall including 22 tackles for loss, nine of the team’s 23 sacks and two forced fumbles. In his career, Petros, a starter at defensive end, set the school record with 63 and a half tackles for loss to go with 191 tackles, 28 sacks, which is second in school history, five passes defended, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

Petros, who was in Salem last Friday night to play on the North Team in the D3 Senior Classic in which he recorded four tackles with two sack, was also named to the 2009 and 2010 Centennial Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll, and he was a finalist for Capital One Academic All-America honors for a second consecutive year.

Petros is one of two Centennial Conference players to earn All-America honors, being joined on the Third Team by senior linebacker Patrick McDonough from Muhlenberg College.  To view the entire 2011 All-America Teams, visit
