Sixth-ranked Franklin & Marshall upset top-ranked TCNJ while fifth-ranked Johns Hopkins edged 11th-ranked Messiah as two Centennial Conference teams advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight with victories in Saturday's second round.
The Diplomats pulled off the upset of the tournament thus far, downing previously-unbeaten TCNJ 4-3 in overtime as CC Offensive Player of the Year Lily Mynott tallied the game-winner in the 62nd minute to push F&M past the Lions, 4-3. The Diplomats improved to 18-3 while the previously unbeaten Lions fell to 18-1. F&M will take on MIT in Sunday's regional final at 1 p.m.
In Baltimore, host JHU (18-2) rallied twice to defeat Messiah (17-5) at Homewood Field. Maddiee Brown-Sherer led the Blue Jays with a goal and an assist. Knotted at 2-2 in the second half, Myra Granato registered the eventual game-winneer in the 44th minute off a feed from Abby Birk.
Hopkins moves onto the NCAA Quarterfinals for the second straight year and third time in school history and will take on defending national runner-up and fourth-ranked Tufts Sunday at 1 p.m.
