Diplomats Take Muhlenberg Invitational
Danny Liebowitz took the individual title while Brendan Mohler and Cameron Warner both placed fifth to deliver Franklin & Marshall the Muhlenberg Invitational team championship on Monday. The Diplomats finished at 326, 10 strokes better than runner-up Penn State Harrisburg in the 11-team tournament. The team championship is the fourth for F&M in the fall portion of its schedule.
Liebowitz's 78 was eight strokes over par at the 6,581-yard Lehigh Country Club and two strokes better than second place finisher Chris McCann from Ursinus. Mohler and Warner both carded 82 in the 54-man field.
Technically, there is no defense in the game of golf. No one is sitting in front of the cup trying to stop shots or intercept the ball.
But when the winds blow like they did during Monday's Muhlenberg Fall Invitational, it can feel like there is an entire line of defenders just trying to keep players from scoring.
Despite strong gusts that blew for much of the day, Muhlenberg battled through to still finish strong. With all four players finishing within five shots of each other, the Mules came in third in the team race at challenging Lehigh Country Club, narrowly missing out on second.
