Alvernia University on Thursday night. The Crusaders continued to
roll, improving to 24-2 on the season, posting wins of 6-0 and
7-0.
Lebanon Valley 7-13, Franklin &
Marshall 2-9
Franklin & Marshall dropped a softball doubleheader to
non-conference opponent Lebanon Valley on Thursday afternoon. The
Dutchmen (18-10) scored runs in the final four innings to get the
first win 7-2, and secured the second game with a six-run sixth
frame to make the final 13-9 before the contest was called due to
darkness. The Diplomats fell to 11-14-1 on the season.
Haverford 14-13, PSU-Abington
2-1
Jen
DiCandilo's hot bat helped the Haverford College softball team
to a sweep of a non-conference doubleheader against Penn
State-Abington at Class of '95 Field on Thursday afternoon. The
Fords took down the Nittany Lions, 14-2, in Game 1 and capped off
the day with a 13-1 victory in Game 2.
Moravian 3-6, Muhlenberg
0-1
The Mules (13-15) managed only six hits and one unearned run in
dropping a doubleheader to the Greyhounds, 3-0 and 6-1. The high-powered offense of the Muhlenberg softball
team, which had scored at least six runs in a school-record 13
consecutive games, was quieted by the pitching of
Moravian.
Swarthmore 6-6, Arcadia 1-5
Junior Kate
Smayda's RBI single with one out in the bottom of the ninth
inning of Wednesday's second game with Arcadia gave the Swarthmore
softball team (14-14) a thrilling doubleheader sweep of the
Knights. Behind a great outing from starting pitcher Sarina
Lowe, Swat cruised in the first game by a score of 6-1.
Smayda's dramatics and towering home runs from senior Elizabeth
Cushing and sophomore Nicole
Aaron gave the Garnet a 6-5 (9 innings) victory in the second
game.
