Messiah 67, Gettysburg 58
Senior center Sarah Kinsley broke the school record for career blocked shots, but the Gettysburg College women's basketball team lost by a score of 67-58 to Messiah College in the championship game of the Gettysburg Days Inn Tournament Tuesday afternoon in Bream Gymnasium. The Bullets (4-6) trailed by only three with just over three minutes left before Messiah (9-3) used a 7-0 run to pull away. The Falcons then salted the game away at the foul line, where they went 8-for-8 inside the final 1:16. Kinsley's first block of the game, which came at the 9:11 mark of the first half, gave her 148 for her career – one more than Katie Reilly had from 2003-07. She added one more block and finished the game with six points and six rebounds. Junior forward Alyssa Oursler posted season-highs of 15 points and nine rebounds to go with four assists to earn a spot on the all-tournament team for Gettysburg.
Puerto Rico-Bayamon 65, Swarthmore 53
Closing out its winter break trip in Puerto Rico, the Swarthmore College women's basketball team (4-6) got a season-high 17 points from senior Genny Pezzola and 11 points from junior Eliza Polli but ultimately fell to host Puerto Rico-Bayamon 65-53 on Tuesday afternoon. Pezzola and Polli both got it done from behind the arc, each tallying three three-pointers. Sophomore Katie Lytle put together a solid all-around performance, pulling down 12 rebounds, scoring eight points and dishing out five assists.
