Muhlenberg 77, Washington College 69
The Muhlenberg women’s basketball team
has become accustomed to snapping streaks against Washington
College. When the Mules defeated Washington back in
December, they snapped the
longest winning streak in Division III
basketball. And with a 77-69 victory today, they snapped their own
three-game losing streak –
Muhlenberg’s longest skid in six years. Leading the Mule
effort were sophomore Leanna Tallamy and
seniorAlita Zabrecky. Tallamy came off the bench
and scored 10 of her 12 points in 11 first-half minutes and also
added four offensive boards during that span. Zabrecky finished
with a team-high 17 points.
Swarthmore 67, Ursinus 52
Led by a strong second half performance from
sophomore Elle
Larsen, the first-place Swarthmore College (14-2, 10-1) women's
basketball team collected its fifth straight victory by defeating
Ursinus College (8-8, 5-6) 57-53 on Saturday
afternoon. Down by as much as 11 points, the Bears
battled back to a one possession game with four seconds remaining
and Lewis Diamond at the line with a chance to make it a one point
game. Diamond missed which forced the Bears to draw a foul. The
Garnet took advantage of the opportunity and put away two good
shots for the victory. Shooting 6-for-7 at the line, Larsen
hit two free throws to put the Garnet ahead by four in the final
seconds to clinch the victory. Larsen finished with 22 points and
10 rebounds – including 13 points and nine boards in the
second half – to collect her second double-double on the
season.

points as the Gettysburg College women’s basketball team
grabbed sole possession of second place in the Centennial
Conference with a 47-36 victory over Haverford College inside Bream
Gym Saturday afternoon. Gettysburg (11-5, 8-3 CC) won for the
seventh time in its last eight games with another stout defensive
performance. The Bullets came into the game leading all of Division
III in field-goal percentage defense and the team backed it up by
holding Haverford (10-5, 7-4 CC) to just 19.4 percent shooting from
the floor. The Fords put up 19 more shots than Gettysburg, but hit
only 13-of-67, including just 3-of-22 from beyond the arc.
Gettysburg has held its last 13 opponents below 30 percent shooting
from the field.
Johns Hopkins 70, Dickinson 46
Senior Alex
Vassila tallied 14 points and 15 rebounds and Stacy
Fairey had 15 points, as the Johns Hopkins women's
basketball team cruised by Dickinson, 70-46, in the Cain Center
Saturday afternoon. The result marked the Blue Jays fifth
consecutive victory - all in Centennial Conference
play. Hopkins (9-8, 7-5 CC) broke the game wide open with
eight minutes to play when it scored three straight baskets to take
a 19-point lead, 56-37. The run started with a beautiful backdoor
pass from Vassila to freshman Liz Tomassi for an easy lay-up.
Tommasi then scored again after a steal and a coast-to-coast
basket.
