Defending National Champs Open With Convincing Win

The top-ranked Gettysburg College women’s
lacrosse team didn’t miss a beat in its season opener,
scoring the final 13 goals in a 17-4 rout of No. 17 University of
Mary Washington Thursday evening. Gettysburg (1-0), the
defending champions in NCAA Division III, was led by
senior Hannah
Church who posted career bests with seven goals and
nine points. Sophomore Loren
Pruitt tied a personal mark with four goals, while
junior Lindsey
Robinson added two goals and three
assists. Junior Alex
Casey led the defensive effort with four caused
turnovers and three ground balls. Senior goalkeeper Maddie
Coleman posted five saves in the victory. The
13-goal victory was Gettysburg’s best in a season opener
since beating Kenyon College 14-1 to kick off the 1997
campaign.
