Kelly Wakeman Named Head Women's Soccer Coach at Ursinus
Ursinus College Director of Athletics Laura Moliken has announced
the hiring of Kelly Wakeman as head women's soccer coach.
Wakeman comes to Collegeville after five seasons as the head
women's soccer coach at Montgomery College in Rockville, Maryland.
She most recently guided Montgomery College–Rockville women's
soccer to a NJCAA DIII National Championship in 2011, the first
soccer championship in the history of Montgomery College.
"We are delighted to have Kelly on board," said Moliken. "She has
an impressive background in soccer and her familiarity with the
Centennial Conference will help her continue to build our women's
soccer program."
Wakeman has been the women's soccer coach at Montgomery since
2007, posting a 72-19-1 record in five seasons. In her time
there, she has been named National Junior College Athletic
Association Region XX Coach of the Year three times and the
National Soccer Coaches Association of America South Region Coach
of the Year twice. She was the National Junior Coach DIII Coach of
the Year in 2011. She produced five All-American and 17
All-Region, All-Conference selections in five years.
"I am humbled and honored to be the next head women's soccer coach
at Ursinus College," said Wakeman "I am thrilled to be a part
of the Ursinus community and I feel very welcomed into the UC
family of coaches."
"I am excited about the future of the women's soccer
program—we have a spirited returning group of players and a
talented new class that will be ready to compete this fall."
She spent one year as an assistant coach at Muhlenberg College,
where she worked with the goalkeepers. She also was an assistant
coach at Whitehall High School and Easton Area High School She also
has been involved in coaching club soccer through ENCO United and
Lower Macungie Youth Soccer.
She is a 2004 graduate of Moravian College, where she graduated
Cum Laude and she is currently pursuing a Masters of Education
degree from Edinboro University. She was a goalkeeper for the
Greyhound women's soccer team, while at Moravian.
"Laura Moliken has shown wonderful leadership and I am so grateful
for the opportunity that she has given me to continue the great
tradition of a strong women's soccer program at Ursinus, " Wakeman
added.
"To all of the current players and alumni, I am confident that we
will build on past achievements and project the Ursinus women's
soccer program into newfound success. I am excited about the
opportunity that I have to lead student-athletes as they accomplish
the academic and athletic goals that they came to Ursinus to
complete."
