Hogan Falls in Singles, Doubles Finals at ITA Regionals
Johns Hopkins women's tennis sophomore Hailey Hogan played in the finals of the ITA Southeast Regional Championship Singles draw and then paired with freshman Shannon Herndon in the finals of the championship doubles draw. She becomes the first player in program history to play in both championship matches in the same year.
Hogan, who made it to the quarterfinals of the singles draw as a freshman last season, was seeded fifth in this year's draw. She defeated second-seeded Courtney Chin of Carnegie Mellon, 6-3, 3-6 and 6-1, to advance to the final against ninth-seeded Sonja Meighan of Washington and Lee. Hogan would fall 6-3, 6-3 to Meighan, who advances to the ITA National Small College Championship in October.
Freshman Elaine Baik, seeded ninth, advanced to the semifinals of the singles draw as Hopkins has two players in the semifinals for the second straight year. She was eliminated by Meighan, 7-5, 6-3.
The day didn't end for Hogan with the loss to Meighan as she then partnered with Herndon to face top-seeded and 2011 NCAA Semifinalists, Lauren Chen and Chin (CMU) in the finals of the championship doubles draw. Chen and Chin would take the match 6-3, 6-3 to win the regional title.
