Volleyball Sweeps Shenandoah

WINCHESTER, Va.  – Senior Stephanie Blair (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) tallied 31 assists, six service aces, and 15 digs as Gettysburg College remained perfect against non-conference competition this season with a 3-0 victory at Shenandoah University Wednesday night.
Gettysburg (14-1) improved to 12-0 in non-league matches after beating Shenandoah (5-10) 25-20, 25-22, and 25-11. The Bullets trailed in each set before surging past the Hornets. Down 12-9 in the opener, Gettysburg went on a 10-1 run with freshman Allie Stranick(Havertown, Pa./Merion Mercy) connecting on five kills to spark the rally.
The visitors saw their biggest deficit in the second set at 17-11. Another 10-1 spurt highlighted by a pair of aces by Blair reversed the trend and put the Bullets in front to stay. Gettysburg trailed briefly in the final frame before ending on a 21-5 run.
Stranick posted 14 kills and added 13 digs for her ninth double-double of the year. Sophomore Kasey Higgins(Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) logged a dozen kills, while senior Maddie Weikert (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) finished with nine kills.
Sophomores Caroline Sequeira (Milling ton, N.J./Watchung Hills) and Melissa Tringali (Cold Spring, N.Y./Haldane) finished with 13 and 12 digs, respectively. Tringali also added a pair of aces, while sophomore Shannon Fletcher(Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) totaled four blocks.
Gettysburg travels to Hood College for a non-conference match on Friday at 7 p.m.
